COE Graduate Programs Application Information
The College of Education offers a wide variety of masters, doctoral and certification programs across all five departments and STEM Education. Through research-driven experiences that pair theory and applied practice, our collaborative, innovative programs are led by expert faculty and industry leaders who are dedicated to advancing fields such as policy and leadership, special education, prevention science, sport management and health behaviors.
General Application Requirements
- Completed ApplyTexas online application.
- Admission to UT’s Graduate School.
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in the U.S. or proof of equivalent training at a foreign institution.
- A minimum required GPA (3.0), particularly during the last two years of college and in any graduate study previously undertaken.
Application Process
Applying to the Graduate School at UT Austin
Go to ApplyTexas and start the application process by creating an account and answering all of the required questions.
Be sure to supply names and email addresses for three letters of recommendation. ApplyTexas will email instructions to the recommenders. Please direct questions about letters of recommendation to gradref@austin.utexas.edu.
Press the Submit button and pay the application fee. The Graduate School will email instructions for uploading additional required application materials within 48 hours via the MyStatus website.

Required Application Materials
Resume/CV: Include post-high school education, relevant work or volunteer experience, honors received, research experience, conference presentations and publications. This file should be no more than three pages.
Statement of Purpose: Describes the applicant’s interests and commitment to the goals and curriculum of the program interest. It also should address the applicant’s personal and academic background as well as their professional goals. Applicants also may address a specific area of research interest or the desire to work with a member of our faculty. This statement should be no more than three pages double-spaced.
Note for Educational Psychology Applicants: The statement of purpose for all Educational Psychology programs should be no more than two to three pages, single-spaced. Applicants for the doctoral program are also required to identify a faculty member they want to work with. Learn more about the EDP faculty.
Transcripts: Upload one copy of the official academic transcript from every senior college attended. See instructions for uploading the pdf of transcript(s).
Letters of Recommendation: Our programs require three letters of recommendation.
GRE Scores: Most COE programs no longer require or have waived the GRE requirement for Fall 2024 admissions. The programs that still require the GRE are noted below. Instructions for sharing scores are available in ApplyTexas.
Some of our programs have additional application requirements. Be sure to check each program page carefully for additional requirements.
International Students
Some students applying from other countries are required to submit either their Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) scores. See the Graduate School website for more information on international test requirements.
Students applying to a teaching certification program have specific TOEFL requirements as determined by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). Please visit the TEA website for more information.
