Due to building-wide renovations, the College of Education Lactation and Quiet Room is unavailable until May 2022. Check this page for a list of lactation rooms available across campus.
The Lactation/Quiet Room (L/QR) on the 2nd floor of the Sánchez building is for people who are lactating and for others requiring rest for medical reasons related to a non-contagious condition. This L/QR is for use by students, faculty, and staff of The University of Texas at Austin.
Employee Use of the Room During Work Hours
You need to obtain your supervisor’s approval to be away from your workstation during your usual work hours. If you do not want to tell your supervisor that you are using the L/QR during work hours, you will need to take accrued leave time to do so.
- The room can be utilized for a maximum of one hour at a time. Please do not use the room longer than necessary in order to make this available to as many people as possible.
- To access the key, go to the ITO Service Desk in SZB 439.
- Access to the room is on a first-come, first-served basis.
The room generally will be available when the ITO Service Desk is open, Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. – 6:45 p.m., and Friday 8:30 a.m. – 4:45 p.m. Available hours may become limited when the ITO Service Desk is closed for University holiday breaks and Spring Break.
The room contains a chair, table space, refrigerator (as of February 6), electrical outlets, a door lock, and an Ameda Elite breast pump. Please note people who are lactating will need to bring their own compatible collection kits. Breastfeeding support, services, and supplies are a covered benefit for employees enrolled in the UT Select Medical Plan. The University of Texas at Austin and its affiliates are not responsible for lost or damaged items regarding the use of the refrigerator.
Please leave the room in clean condition and notify ITO Service Desk staff if additional cleaning is needed.
