Urban Teachers
Post-Baccalaureate
The program is designed to help equity-minded secondary English and Social Studies teacher candidates develop knowledge, skills and dispositions to support teaching and learning in linguistically and culturally diverse urban settings. You will learn how to bring progressive pedagogies to your students and will work with seasoned mentor teachers in local middle and high school classrooms.
This 18-hour, three-semester sequence — intended for those who already have a bachelor’s degree in a humanities field — begins in the spring.
Each semester, students will take one or two Education classes per semester and participate in valuable fieldwork in local area classrooms and with community organizations such as Breakthrough Central Texas. These experiences focus on pedagogies and curricula that are most relevant to youth and their home communities.
