Deputy to the Provost, The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV)
My journey to the Executive Ed.D. program at The University of Texas at Austin has been driven by my desire to develop my leadership capabilities further and position myself for long-term professional success. I often considered pursuing a doctoral degree throughout my career, but I was waiting for the right time and opportunity to take the plunge. Encouraged by a mentor, who recognized my potential, I began exploring various doctoral programs that would align with my professional goals and needs. The Executive Ed.D. program at UT Austin stood out to me for its accelerated yet flexible structure, designed specifically for full-time working professionals in higher education.
Although the five-hour commute from South Texas poses challenges, I have found the experience both manageable and rewarding. The program’s cohort model is a standout feature, fostering a close-knit learning community that provides invaluable support as I progress through the program. I have found my cohort mates to be a constant source of motivation and encouragement, and I am so privileged to experience this journey alongside them. Moreover, the faculty are exceptional, committed to student success, and consistently enrich our learning experience by inviting distinguished guest speakers who further enhance our academic and professional networks.
I am grateful for the opportunity to grow in such a collaborative and supportive environment. The connections, experiences, and knowledge I’ve gained thus far have been invaluable, and I am confident they will continue to inspire and guide me throughout my doctoral journey and beyond.

The Executive Ed.D. in Higher Education Leadership Program at UT Austin offers an ideal path for those aiming to shape higher education at the executive and presidential levels. This program allows me to learn from world-class practitioners while refining my leadership abilities and gaining the insights needed to lead at the highest levels in higher education; all while continuing my full-time work.
Inspired by my grandmother, Rosa “Misha” (may she rest in peace), who always believed I would one day be a president, I have come to realize her vision was a calling in higher education. With my Master of Global Affairs from Rice University, this program aligns perfectly with my commitment to empowering students and building frameworks that foster their long-term success.
Throughout my career, I have championed initiatives that bridge the gap between academic preparation and workforce readiness, from developing internships and fostering employer relations to creating career-focused programs that cultivate collaboration and innovation. My multicultural heritage and my parents’ resilience as Mexican immigrants of Lebanese heritage have instilled in me a deep dedication to supporting students from all backgrounds. I am committed to developing scalable, impactful programs that enhance students’ lifelong career journeys, making education more accessible, relevant, and empowering.

I have been involved in education my entire life. Both of my parents were teachers in my native Mexico. I became an elementary teacher and later combined marketing communications with lecturing at prestigious universities in Mexico City. After a fulfilling career in public relations, I moved to Austin, Texas, attracted by The University of Texas, which offers excellent opportunities for study and work.
Reflecting on my career journey in Texas, I recall my parents’ words, encouraging me to pursue my education fully: “You should not wait for life to hand you anything. You must chase your dreams.” Intending to transition into a higher education administration position, I turned to UT because of its local and national reputation. After careful evaluation, I concluded that UT’s Executive Ed.D. in Higher Education Leadership program was the best for me. To begin with, the program enables me to study while I work. It provides in-person classes that allow me to enjoy a campus experience in the city where I live. The cohort model offers continuous support from members with different work experiences who share the same goal. Completing this program in 30 to 36 months is very appealing to me.
Studying in the Executive Ed.D. in Higher Education Leadership program at UT is one of my most desired personal growth dreams that has come true. The program increases my knowledge of policy and leadership, improves my research skills, connects me with experts in higher education, and enhances my professional profile for new opportunities. As a lifelong learner, I always seek to improve my practice and serve and inspire others, including my 10-year-old daughter, who also wants to become a Longhorn one day!
