The Department of Educational Psychology is currently nationally ranked as #9 among Best Educational Psychology Programs by U.S. News & World Report. Our exceptional faculty, staff and students have all contributed to this notable achievement. The department is one of the leading sites for research in the areas of learning and motivation, child and adolescent development, the intersection between psychology and culture, influences on health-related outcomes, coping and stress, innovative psychometric applications and novel statistical modeling methods.

The Department of Educational Psychology provides an interdisciplinary approach to studying the individual experience in educational and health-related settings and includes four program areas: Counseling Psychology; Human Development, Culture & Learning Sciences; Quantitative Methods; and School Psychology. All four program areas offer both master’s and doctoral degrees in their respective specializations. Graduates with a master’s degree from the Department of Educational Psychology are employed in school districts, post-secondary educational institutions, research institutes, testing companies and state and federal agencies. Graduates with a Ph.D. from the Department of Educational Psychology are employed in a variety of settings such as K-12 school systems, colleges and universities, mental health and child guidance centers, medical centers, children’s hospitals, independent clinical practice, professional testing organizations, educational research and development agencies and governing agencies of higher education.

In addition to our graduate programs, the department also offers a minor in Educational Psychology for undergraduate students. The minor allows undergraduate students a chance to augment their major and learn more about the field of Educational Psychology. Courses that are available include Statistical Reasoning and Literacy; Introduction to School Psychology; Cognition, Human Learning, and Motivation; and Introduction to Individual Counseling and Psychotherapy.

Please explore our website to learn more about potential careers in Educational Psychology, as well as the innovative research being conducted by our faculty members and students as we pursue our mission to advance knowledge about the human experience at the intersection of education and psychology through research, teaching and practice.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me or any of our department faculty members.

All the best,
