Placement Exams and Claiming Credit Earned in High School
Claiming Your AP/IB Scores
Please send all of your AP/IB scores to the university.
Talk with your advisor before you claim any of your AP/IB credits. This is very important because you want to only claim credits that you need for your degree.
Most prerequisite courses for health professions require a grade and not credit, so you may be required to take the course in college. Be sure to check with your advisor.
Your AP/IB credits are good for ten years so there is no rush to claim them upfront.
Claiming Your Dual/Transfer Credit
Be sure to ask the college where you received your credits to send your official transcript to the Admissions Office.
OnRamps college credit is UT Austin credit, not transfer credit from another institution. If you earned and accepted college credit through OnRamps, the course and grade will appear on your UT Austin transcript after the final grade is reported to the Office of the Registrar; you do not need to send UT Austin a separate transcript for that credit. Talk with your advisor about how the credit applies to your degree.
Taking Placement Exams during Summer Orientation
UT Math Assessment
Exercise Science majors who do not have AP/IB or dual credit for calculus AND want to take it in their first semester must take the UT Math Assessment (UTMA) prior to attending their orientation.
If you do not wish to take calculus in your first semester, have dual credit in the course, or feel confident that you passed your AP/IB exam with a 3 or higher, then you do need to take the UT Math Assessment prior to your orientation.
The UTMA is only required for students who want to take calculus at UT Austin. You are welcome to satisfy your calculus credit at a community college or another university. Talk to your advisor for more specifics.
There will be a charge for this assessment that will be added to your tuition bill.
SAT II for M 305G Precalculus Credit
We recommend that all students EXCEPT for Exercise Science majors who are taking the UTMA for Calculus take the SAT II exam when you attend orientation. This could give you credit for M 305G (precalculus) and satisfy your math core requirement.
You do not need to take the exam if you have AP/IB credit or have dual credit or transfer credit for precalculus or higher.

Language Placement Exam
All Bilingual Education and Youth and Community Studies majors are strongly encouraged to take the language placement exam as doing so could satisfy the foreign language requirement.
You are not required to take the exam, but if you are proficient in a language other than English, we recommend you take the exam to receive the credit.
You do not need to take the exam if you think you scored well on your AP/IB credit exam, have dual credit or transfer credit for a language other than English. Check the Student Testing Services website for minimum score requirements.
If you want to pursue the Bilingual Education Program, you are required to take the Spanish Language Test during orientation so you may start your Spanish courses right away. Having scores for the AP Spanish test replaces this requirement at orientation.

CH 301 Eligibility Assessment
Students taking CH 301 in their first semester at UT must take a chemistry assessment in order to be eligible to remain in CH 301.
You must complete at least 85% of the modules and assessments in order to remain in CH 301.
Please begin the modules as soon as you return home because completing them will take time.
