The College of Education Events Services supports all aspects of departmental and college-wide events from planning through execution. The events program coordinator is the primary contact for larger, college-wide events including Commencement, the Texas Education Alumni Conference, and Explore UT. The events program coordinator also can serve as a consultant for departmental events.
Each department hosts a roster of regular and special occasion events that vary in scale and complexity. To help you determine how best to utilize our resources in executing your annual events calendar, events are categorized as Tiers 1-3. The events program coordinator can help you determine which tier best fits your event.
Tier 1 events are typically public facing, involve donors and guests who come from outside the college, and/or have a guest list of 75 or more. Tier 1 events are led by the events program coordinator but may involve a committee of faculty or staff members from other departments. Examples include the Texas Education Alumni Conference and the Teacher Pinning Ceremony as well as most university-wide events including Explore UT and Commencement.
Tier 2 events may involve multiple departments or large groups from single departments. They are generally focused on the College of Education community but may extend to the university community or academic community generally. The largest events your department plans each year (either in terms of guests or time involved in planning) are likely Tier 2 events. When planning a Tier 2 event, you are encouraged to invite the events program coordinator to your early planning meetings to help with logistics. She will continue to be available as a resource as you plan your event, and can help with day of execution when appropriate. Examples of Tier 2 events include a lecture series or small- to medium-sized conferences and any events that involve guests from outside your department that do not fall under the Tier 1 category.
Tier 3 Events are all other events your department hosts including staff retreats, faculty dinners, and student information sessions. When planning a Tier 3 event, you do not need to involve the events program coordinator but are encouraged to use the events resources at right for sample timelines, best practices, and links to necessary forms. You are also welcome to contact the events program coordinator with questions as you plan your event.
