Sherri Castillo (she/her) is a doctoral candidate in the Education Policy and Planning Program at the University of Texas at Austin. Her research interests include developing inclusive policy for LGBTQ+ students and staff, including policies that make space for transgender and non-binary people.

Castillo has a BSE in English from Millersville University. She completed a Master’s program at Penn State University with a focus in curriculum and instruction. Her area of research during her program was on the charter school system in Pennsylvania and lack of accountability around funding and outcomes.

She has ten years teaching experience in urban schools, both public and charter. During her career, she served as the Gay Straight Alliance adviser and was on the team that drafted guidelines for working with trans and non-binary students in the School District of Lancaster. She provided professional development for staff across the district. Prior to moving to Austin, she served on the board of the Lancaster LGBTQ+ Coalition.
