Tracey Flores, assistant professor of Curriculum and Instruction, has received a three-year, $50,000 grant from the Spencer Foundation for the study, “Development and Implementation of a Writer’s Workshop in Elementary Bilingual Classrooms: Three Years on an Elementary Dual Language Campus.”
Together with Co-PI Martha Doolittle from Austin Independent School District and graduate research assistant Rosalyn Harvey, Flores will study the development and implementation of a bilingual writer’s workshop at a K-5, Title 1, one-way dual language school that serves a majority Latinx community.
The workshop will center on the cultural, linguistic, and familial resources of students while providing time, space, and choice for young writers to engage in and develop their writing in multiple languages.
The study began in January 2019 and will continue through January 2021.
