Associate Professors Jessica Toste, Department of Special Education, and Huriya Jabbar, Department of Educational Leadership and Policy, were awarded a $100,000 APX Flash Funding Grant along with Kathrynn Pounders, an associate professor in the Stan Richards School of Advertising & Public Relations in the Moody College of Communication.
Their proposal, GoKAR! Educational Program: Teaching Anti-Racism to Preschoolers at Home, will focus on engaging with children’s context to influence emotional and cognitive processes to counter the development of racial bias. The research team hopes to recruit 100 caregiver-child pairs over the next year to explore the potential of GoKAR! to reduce implicit bias and increase awareness of structural racism in young children.
APX is a program overseen by UT Austin’s Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) and is funded by OVPR and the Provost’s Office.
