Limited At-Home COVID Tests

Oct. 12, 2021

Dear College of Education community,

As some of you may know, the university has been planning to provide at-home COVID tests to the UT community. Unfortunately, recent supply chain issues have caused the number of available tests to be far fewer than initially expected. We do, however, have a small number of at-home tests available that we can provide upon request. At this time, tests are only for faculty, AIs, and TAs teaching in person, in addition to staff who are required to maintain high levels of student contact and/or have jobs that do not allow for social distancing.

If you are experiencing symptoms, even those that are mild, follow these instructions.

You are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the expanded Proactive Testing program offered both by appointment and walk-in across campus. If you follow the Proactive Testing link, you will see that UT has significantly increased the number of locations for proactive testing.

If you are unable to test through the Proactive Testing program on campus, you may request an at-home test.

To make the request, please send an email to with the subject line, "Requesting COVID at-home test" and provide the following information:

  • Name
  • EID

The requests will be sent to me for approval. If your request is approved, you will receive information to schedule a time to pick up your test. We will respond to you within one business day regarding these requests.

Here are a few guidelines:

  • Only the intended user may request a test.
  • Tests may only be used by the employee. They are not to be distributed to family members or others.
  • Employees who test positive are expected to report to OHP.
  • Regardless of the test result, if employees are symptomatic or a close contact of a positive test case, they are also asked to report to OHP.

Please also review the At-Home Test Employee Expectations document.
