Four alumni of the College of Education will be among the ten former student-athletes and two coaches who will be inducted to the Texas Athletics Hall of Fame in September, marking their extraordinary accomplishments, distinguished abilities and trailblazing careers in the world of sports.
The Texas Athletics Hall of Fame recognizes former Longhorns who contributed to university sports and went on to lead outstanding careers in their respective fields. This year, 12 individuals will make up the Texas Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2024 and be introduced in a ceremony on Friday, Sept. 20 at the LBJ Auditorium.
Those representing the College of Education will be legendary basketball player Reggie Freeman (B.S.’12), NFL stars Marquise Goodwin (B.S.’20) and Colt McCoy (B.S.’09), and softball superstar Lexy Bennett Skaggs (B.S.’12).
Freeman, who remains fourth on the University of Texas’ all-time scoring list at 1,958 career points, and Goodwin, who is among Texas Football’s top wideouts and kick returners in history, graduated from COE’s Bachelor of Science in Applied Learning and Development with a major in Youth and Community Studies.
Meanwhile, McCoy, whose Texas Football number 12 is retired and concluded his career as the NCAA’s winningest quarterback, majored in Sports Management through the college’s Kinesiology and Health Education department.
Skaggs, who helped lead the Longhorns to the 2010 Big 12 Championship and the 2012 NCAA Super Regionals, studied physical culture and sports in the Kinesiology and Health Education department.
Join us in congratulating these distinguished COE alumni who are changing the world on and off the field!
