If you’re a fan of Texas Women’s Basketball, then you know the name Rori Harmon. The standout point guard and Houston native just reached a major milestone in her athletic career, scoring 1,000 career points and 500 assists, becoming only the third player in UT’s program history to achieve this remarkable feat.
This achievement makes Harmon the 48th player at UT to score 1,000 points. A record-breaker from the start, she made history by becoming the first freshman in Texas Women’s Basketball to earn All-American honors.
In an interview this summer with Longhorn Legend and COE alumnus Cory Redding (B.S. ’17) on the Texas Education Trailblazer series, the 5′6″ point guard credited her time at COE for shaping her leadership skills and helping her empower her teammates to succeed.
“There are things that I’ve learned from academics to be a great leader on the court,” said Harmon, “but also a lot of things from basketball that taught me how to manage everyday life, including education.”
When asked why she chose UT Austin, Harmon replied, “It’s just a winning culture here. We say elite is a choice, and I believe this. I chose to be elite by coming here and I think it’s the best decision I’ve made. We’re going to keep winning as well.”
In 2023, Harmon faced a devastating ACL injury that ended her season early after just 12 games. However, she’s now back on the court, thrilling the crowds once again.
The College of Education is proud of all of our talented student-athletes. Rori Harmon exemplifies excellence both athletically and academically, using the knowledge she’s gained from the college to enhance her leadership skills on and off the court.
