Strongman Mitchell Hooper, who famously won the 2023 World’s Strongest Man competition, visited researchers at the College of Education this month to answer one question: if he was not the largest man, or the most muscular, how come he was so successful at strongman competitions?
In a visit with Department of Kinesiology and Health Education professor emeritus Dr. Edward Coyle and his students, Mitchell tested his power using a stationary bicycle developed by Coyle. The results, which took a snapshot measurement of Hooper’s maximal power, were not only surprising but world record breaking.
With Hooper recording a maximal power 2.5 times higher than the highest previously recorded, Coyle and his students observed what could be one explanation for Hooper’s strongman success.
