Alumni Kathy Dieringer, BS '84 and Michael O’Shea BS '68 inducted into the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) Hall of Fame

Kinesiology and Health Education Alumni Kathy Dieringer and Mike O’Shea have been inducted into NATA’s Class of 2017 Hall of Fame. This prestigious honor recognizes those who advance the field of athletic training through dedicated service, leadership and professionalism.

Photo fo Katie DieringerKathy has been a professional leader in athletic training for more than 30 years. In addition to co-owning an outpatient rehabilitation clinic, D&D Sports Med, Kathy has served many roles in the field of athletic training. These include president of District VI of NATA and chair of the Clinical and Emerging Practices Athletic Trainers’ Committee for NATA.

In addition to her work with NATA, Kathy has also served as an athletic trainer for the USA Olympic Gymnastics and Volleyball teams. She is recognized as a specialist in the treatment of gymnastics injuries. Kathy is also an adjunct professor at the University of North Texas and is a Titleist Performance Institute Certified golfer.

Mike O’Shea

Photo of Mike O'SheaMike graduated with a bachelor’s degree from UT in 1968. He has served various athletic training roles in football, track and field, and also for the U.S. Air Force while stationed at the US Air Force Academy.

Since 1993, Mike has served as the head athletic trainer for the University of Houston athletic department, and has received several awards distinguishing his service. He received the Excellence in Athletic Training Award from the Southwest Athletic Trainers Association in 2013 after saving the life of cornerback D.J. Hayden during football practice.
