Fourth-year Department of Curriculum and Instruction doctoral student Tiye Naeemah Cort has created Feminessay, an online community where black women around the world can share their own stories and narratives.

Cort was inspired to create the site while studying literacy and writing at The University of Texas at Austin, and she hopes that it will become a major outlet for Black female writers to express themselves.

Feminessay is an online website that allows black women to submit fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and photography to be featured on the website. The website plans to offer resources and materials to improve a writers’ identity. “Like book clubs, we hope that this online community will turn into regular ‘writing clubs’ where women can talk about, think about, and share our writing with one another before and while submitting our pieces for publication on the Feminessay website.”
