Special Education Ph.D. Candidate Erica Fry Receives the College of Education’s Research Grant

Erica Fry, a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Special Education, has received the 2023-2024 Graduate Student Research Award from UT Austin’s College of Education. This award will support her dissertation investigating the impact of EXPERT PLC, an online professional learning community focused on data-based instruction and social-emotional learning for early career special education teachers.

“Erica is deeply investing in supporting special education teachers, especially in the early years of their careers, and she is a skilled facilitator,” says Associate Professor and advisor Jessica Toste. “She entered the doctoral program at UT Austin with over 20 years of experience in special education, having served in multiple leadership roles during that time.”

Fry previously received the Council for Exceptional Children’s Division for Learning Disabilities Candace S. Bos Innovative Project.
