Teacher Preparation Programs for Graduate Students

The University of Texas at Austin offers several options for you to earn a master’s degree and prepare for Texas Education Agency teacher certification at the same time. These programs are for students who hold a bachelor’s degree but do not have a teaching certificate.

You will take courses that lead to a master’s degree while also completing a Professional Development Sequence (PDS). The PDS is a teacher preparation program that includes fieldwork, observations, and student teaching. You will also have to pass teacher certification exams administered by Pearson. Typically, more than 95% of our graduates pass the exam.

If you earned your bachelor’s degree from a college or university in a country other than the United States, you will need to have your transcripts evaluated and should speak to a program advisor before applying. Additional coursework may be required. International students must meet TEA-required TOEFL exam cut-off scores prior to admission to the PDS.
