Dyslexia and Dyscalculia Intervention
Department of Special Education
The Department of Special Education offers a new masters concentration in Dyslexia and Dyscalculia Intervention in a fully online format. The concentration in Dyslexia and Dyscalculia Intervention provides students with advanced training in the preparation, implementation and evaluation of evidence-based practices to support students with or at-risk for learning disabilities in reading, mathematics and writing, including word-level reading disability (i.e., dyslexia), mathematics calculation disability (i.e., dyscalculia) and writing disability (i.e., dysgraphia).
Course content focuses on current assessment and intervention practices to support these student populations. Students will learn about intervention research for students with difficulties and disabilities in reading, mathematics and writing; the administration and interpretation of assessments to best inform instruction; and the implementation of evidence-based interventions.
The program is designed for students who seek to support and serve students with dyslexia and dyscalculia in schools or related educational settings (i.e., clinics, tutoring, consulting).
The full program is designed to be completed over two years with a minimum of 36 hours of coursework. Courses combine both asynchronous and synchronous learning experiences in a fully online format. We welcome both full-time (i.e., 9 credit hours per semester) and part-time (i.e., 3-6 credit hours per semester) enrollment.
