Dr. Sara Hussain was awarded a new grant from the National Center for Medical Rehabilitation Research (NCMRR). The grant is an Early Career R03 Award and is designed to support basic and clinical research from rehabilitation scientists who are establishing independent research careers and completing projects that support one or more topics within the mission of NCMRR. The grant will support Dr. Hussain’s project, which aims to establish the feasibility of real-time personalized brain state-dependent TMS after someone experiences a stroke and identify clinical inclusion criteria for future large-scale studies.
Dr. Hussain is completing the project in collaboration with Dr. José del Millán of UT’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Dr. Robert Lee from St. David’s rehabilitation department.
Dr. Peng Peng will be the principal investigator in a new grant founded by the U.S. National Science Foundation. The project is a comprehensive systematic review and network meta-analysis of research on the impact of mathematics interventions on mathematics outcomes for Grades PreK to 12 students. The goal of this project is to explore 1) the effectiveness of mathematics intervention with different combinations of instructional and affective components on mathematics outcomes and 2) for whom, on what mathematics outcomes, and under what conditions the combinations of intervention components work the best. The findings will help create an understanding of which instructional strategies and skills are connected and will help those using them to identify the most effective method to help students improve in math.
