Additional Application Requirements
For Graduate Programs
The College of Education offers a wide variety of masters, doctoral and certification programs across all five departments and STEM Education. Through research-driven experiences that pair theory and applied practice, our collaborative, innovative programs are led by expert faculty and industry leaders who are dedicated to advancing fields such as policy and leadership, special education, prevention science, sport management and health behaviors.
Curriculum & Instruction

Program Contact:
Bilingual-Bicultural Education – All applicants must provide a supplemental writing sample describing their cross-cultural and/or cross-linguistic experiences written in Spanish to be uploaded as a Miscellaneous Admissions Document.
Be sure to demonstrate competency with the language and show that you have made efforts to cross borders by working, traveling or having lived in situations that required a multiplicity of cultural competencies.
Cultural Studies in Education – No additional requirements.
Early Childhood Education – No additional requirements.
Language and Literacy Studies – All applicants to the program must already be certified to teach. Some teaching experience is preferred at the master’s level while a minimum of three years teaching experience is required at the doctoral level.

Physical Education Teacher Education – No additional requirements.
Social Studies Education – No additional requirements.
STEM Education – While the department prefers for master’s applicants to have a minimum GPA of 3.0, particularly during the last two years of college and in any previous graduate study, applicants with lower GPAs will be considered. After submitting an application, upload a miscellaneous document explaining why your GPA or test scores are not valid indicators of your ability. Doctoral applicants must have a baccalaureate or master’s degree and prior coursework in one or more STEM fields. Teaching experience is highly desired.
Urban Teachers (English and Social Studies programs)
School districts require all employees, including university students, to pass a criminal background check.
Educational Leadership and Policy

Program Contact:
Cooperative Superintendency Program – All applicants must have a master’s degree, mid-management certification/experience and two years of experience as a principal and/or central office administrator. The GRE is required.
Educational Policy and Planning – No additional requirements
Higher Education Leadership and Policy – Master’s applicants should pay close attention to the statement of purpose requirements.
Higher Education Leadership and Policy Executive Ed.D. – Applicants must hold a master’s degree from an accredited institution and follow specific instructions for the statement of purpose.
Texas Principal Leadership Academy – All applicants must first be nominated. The program also requires a specific format for applicants’ resumes and an additional application fee. The GRE is required.
Educational Psychology

Program Contact:
Counselor Education Master’s – A CV or resume, a statement of purpose, and three letters of recommendation.
Counseling Psychology Ph.D. – A CV or resume, a statement of purpose, and three letters of recommendation.
Human Development, Culture, and Learning Sciences – A CV or resume, a statement of purpose, and three letters of recommendation.
Quantitative Methods – A CV or resume, a statement of purpose, and three letters of recommendation. A master’s in Quantitative Methods or a related field such as Statistics or Quantitative Psychology is required to apply to our doctoral program.
School/Clinical Child Psychology Ph.D. – A CV or resume, a statement of purpose, and three letters of recommendation.
School Psychology Master’s – A CV or resume, a statement of purpose, and three letters of recommendation.
Kinesiology and Health Education

Program Contact:
Biomechanics and NeuroRehabilitation – All students should have an undergraduate degree in kinesiology or a related field (e.g. biology, physics, physiology, neuroscience, psychology, biomedical or mechanical engineering, etc.) and demonstrate competency in
- Human Anatomy.
- Vertebrate or Human Physiology.
- Biomechanics.
- Motor Learning or Neuromuscular Control.
Exercise Physiology – Master’s applicants are expected to hold at least a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in kinesiology or a related field, e.g. biology, physiology, neuroscience, biomedical engineering, etc.
Health Behavior and Health Education – Master’s applicants are expected to hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and the completion of a minimum of three credit hours of coursework from each of the following areas: Theory & Methods of Health Behavior and Health Education and/or Health Promotion, Statistics and Behavioral Sciences.
Physical Culture and Sport Studies – Applicants should know the scholarly interest that they would like to pursue before applying for admission.
Sport Management – On Campus – No additional requirements.
Sport Management – Online – The GRE is required.
Special Education
